We finally made it!

After yesterday's travels, we got to do it all over again! We got up this morning and left for the airport around 10 am! It only took six carloads to get all of us AND our luggage to get us there. Nassau's airport is much smaller than Atlanta’s, so getting through check in and security. Once through, we got to hurry up and wait again! I will say that our group found the airport playground and spent some time hanging out there. Another cool part about the airport was that we didn’t have an actual gate to walk into the plane. Instead, they walked us outside and had us board the plane with stairs. It was neat to do this for the first time! On the other hand, our plane was much smaller, so we felt WAY more bumps than I would like!

Flying over the islands was so beautiful as we saw pretty, blue water and fluffy, white clouds. Landing was very scary, but it was nice to finally get to where we were going! We hopped off the plane and were met by the GRC staff! They helped us load up and then we were on the way to the center. To paint the picture of our ride, all 23(?) students were on the back of a truck in a hayride fashion. The breeze was so nice, and we found out quickly how much of a luxury that was.

Once we were at the center, we unloaded and headed to orientation for room assignments! I will say the center is smaller than the pictures made it seem, but still a nice location for us! I ended up in a room of three girls, but I also think our room is the hottest on our floor. We don’t get any breeze, and we think our ceiling fan is only pushing hot air around. There is really only one or two building that actually cool off here. Overall, this heat might be the death of me.

On the other hand, there is a very easy way to help the heat. Clear blue waters!! During our free time today a group of us spent some time trying out our snorkeling gear. I saw SO much tropical fish and a decent bit of corals. I saw a few anemones, wrasse, and clownfish and more! The water here completely blew my expectations out of the water, and we haven’t even been to the best spots yet!

Overall, we have a big 10 days ahead of us on San Salvador!
