Hello, my name is Abbiegail Rankl, but I like to go by Abbie. I am a sophomore Exercise science major with a pre-professional concentration. I am taking the GC2Y and Global Climate Change classes for this trip. I decided to go on this trip because I wanted to get involved with studying abroad and this trip seemed like a great starter trip, while also being about something I was interested in. Another reason I wanted to go on this trip is because I have always loved the ocean, and seeing and learning about the different things that live in it, especially sea creatures. I am very interested in learning about new cultures, places, people, plants, and animals that live there, as well as getting to know the people who are going from our school and other schools as well. When I was little, I wanted to be a marine biologist, which is something most kids wanted to do, and yes, I may have changed my mind, but learning about some of the things involved with marine biology still fascinates me today. I am very excited about the field excursions we will be doing because we will see the different parts of the island and the ocean, this is also a more hands-on approach to learning which is something I like, and the way I learn the best. Something I hope to gain from this course is a wider knowledge about the plants and animals of the Bahamas, both in the water and on land, and I would also like to learn a little bit about climate change because I don’t know a lot about it. I am very excited about this trip, and can't wait to be there and get started, I think this will be a great experience and way to learn about something new and to meet a lot of new people along the way.
